Logan Wins 2006 WBA Championship
On a foggy November evening in Fresno, the Logan Band and Color Guard won their seventh WBA Championship with an outstanding performance of their program, “Snakes, Lizards and Dragons”.
The Prelims - This year’s championship was held in Buchanan High School with the Preliminary competition commencing on Saturday, November 18 and the Finals held the following day. The 5A Preliminary portion was opened by an exhibition from a new WBA member high school, Eastside Lion Pride Marching Band. The band was made up of only 9th and 10th graders and it was only their third field show competition. The actual competition commenced with Logan’s entry on the field. The Logan musicians and dancers gave a very inspired performance. As the rest of the top 5A bands performed and their scores were posted one by one, anticipation mounted amongst the spectators. The crowd was eager to know who among the 25 4A/5A bands will move on to the Finals. Only 15 bands were eligible to compete and it was determined by their scores in the Preliminary competition. With their superb performance, the judges awarded Logan with a score of 94.80. They were closely followed by Ayala with a score of 94.10 and Mission Viejo with a score of 94.05. Moreover, Logan took the caption awards for High General Effect, High Visual and High Auxiliary. Ayala was awarded the caption award for High Music, with Mission Viejo winning the High Percussion. Prelims were over and onwards to the Finals!
The Finals - The 4A/5A Finals competition began at 2pm on Sunday, November 19. Excitement and anticipation filled the air as the top bands began performing. The Logan fans cheered wildly as the band began their Finals competition at 5:45 pm. Logan was the last band to perform that day by virtue of having the highest score in the Prelims. The fans and spectators were not disappointed as the top four bands gave their very best during their performances. In the end, 4th place was given to Clovis West with a score of 90.26.
