Under the leadership of Director of Bands, Adam Wilke, the Logan instrumental music program has developed into one of the largest and finest in the state. The instrumental music department at James Logan High School is the largest co-curricular group on campus.
Concert Band is the basic entry for students transitioning from middle school, beginning their musical study at Logan. Most students will be placed in Concert Band for their Freshman year. Depending on individual development, some students will stay in Concert Band the following year, while others will move to Symphonic or Wind Symphony.
Symphonic Band is an intermediate level of musical instruction. The Symphonic Band focuses on refining instrument playing skills and performing quality music literature of a higher difficulty level. Selection into Symphonic Band is based on audition and director recommendation.
Wind Symphony is comprised of the most advanced musicians in the band program and performs the finest wind literature, while continuing the development of refined, professional skills. Membership is based on audition and director recommendation. The Wind Symphony meets on a daily basis and performs at various shows throughout the school year.
James Logan High School Jazz Band provides a rich opportunity for those students wanting to explore their musical creativity. The band is open to students in grades 9-12. Auditions are held each August prior to the start of school. Students enroll in a class that meets daily, and attend several performances throughout the school year.
